How to type French accents with a qwerty keyboard on PPT2003

I am currently using the PowerPoint 2003 (US version) with a Qwerty
keyboard. I would like how to type French accents. I could do "Insert -->
Symbol", and choose my character, but it is really cumbersome. With Word
2003, shortcuts like "CTRL + yourAccent, yourVowel" are working. How could I
configure PowerPoint 2003 to work in the same way ?

Thanks in advance,

Joannes,

I'm not sure if these 3 are the best way to go....but

Put the "omega" symbol on any toolbar (this brings up the character map). So
you can quickly choose any character from a font.

Or

In the AutoCorrect options...you can add your own autocorrect options..

So, I guess you could type in.....

everytime you type in e} auto replace it with é
e{ with ê
etc etc

Or

write your self a list a keep it next to the computer

Hold down Alt and press 0234, then let go of Alt for ê
Alt-0226 for â
etc
etc

Ctrl-Alt-E=é

Thanks for your help, but I am still wondering why PPT2003 is not coherent
with Word2003 on such a basic thing like keyboard inputs. Why the shorcut
"CTRL + yourAccent, yourVowel" works with Word and does not work with PPT ?

Of course, if you use a Mac you would not have a problem
as they are logical. Typing Alt then 4 numbers seems so
archaic.

Hi Johannes,

Word and PowerPoint utilize completely different text input/editing
engines. Each application will have more features in the areas which are
the strengths of the individual products. This is why Word (a powerful word
processor) has many more text formatting capabilities than PowerPoint and
Excel and why PowerPoint has fewer text features but more drawing
flexibility and animations.

Of course, if you (or anyone else reading this message) feel strongly that
some additional text formatting capabilities be available in PowerPoint,
don't forget to send your feedback to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also why it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).

Hi!

I know this is a bit late, but in case anyone is still interested:

You know that Alt Gr key to the right of the space bar? It does have a use. If you hold it down while typing a letter, you can put an acute accent on any vowel. This covers Spanish adequately, but is obviously only part of the answer for French.
