how do I change keyboard to do french accents

My son is working on a file, when part way through, the keyboard is showing
french accents for certain marks. I want to switch it back! Help!

Maybe it's a laptop with a special key for changing the input.

Or maybe an additional software keyboard is installed; you can toggle/
swith among keyboards with LeftAlt+Shift.
