How to turn off special characters and "curley quotes".

How do I turn off special characters and "curley quotes" so I can use Word as
a text editor and cut and paste work to a web page?

In Word, click on Tools | AutoCorrect Options | AutoFormat As You Type |
turn off the undesired options under "Replace as you type" | OK.
