How to stop play on a sound file

How can I get the sound file to stop playing manually
without moving on to the next slide. When I click the
mouse on the sound icon, it restarts or the presentation
moves to the next slide.
 
How about duplicating the slide and removing the sound file from the
duplicate. That way when you click and it moves to the next slide, the next
slide is a duplicate so looks like you're still on the same slide sans
sound.

Which version of PPT are you using? I think this would be pretty easy with
PPT 2002; I'd have to experiment with the other versions, though.
