How to stop font changing to times new roman?

In the middle of an essay stopped and saved it, went back to continue essay
and word will not let me type in any font except times new roman. Opened a
new document and same happens only times new roman. Tahoma is set as my
default font but this keeps changing back also. Does any one have any
suggestions?

Do you have a printer selected under File>Print?
