Not an option because extensio is not a word. Like the adage says, "You
can lead a jackass to water, but you can't make it drink." Sorting by
type (which is what I originally suggested) is not quite the same as
sorting by extension, but it is as close as you're going to get in
Microsoft Word.
Since every file is stamped with the date is was last modified. To see this
in word right click in an empty area in the file list and do: view |
details. Then you can see when the file was modified.
Changing the extension of a file might make windows confused over what type
it is. And if you don't show the full file name it wont matter if you sort by
type.
To see if you see the entire filename in any folder window check in : Tools
| Folder Options | View, if the "Hide extension for known file types" it will
not matter if you try to sort by type since the final extension (the one
windows thinks
is the type will be hidden from you).
So if you just want the date, use the time stamp already given to the file.
I often sort by extension. Sometimes I need a file and all I know is that
it's an Excel spreadsheet. I'm dealing with that now at work. The guys don't
remember what they named it but they remember that they used whatever
program to create it.
Yes of course sort by extension is good a lot of times. But not using the
extension s to date the files. That just sounds strange and counterproductive
to me.
