How to Slipstream?

I have read about slipstreaming WinXp with SP2. There are several web
sites that describe the process. But they all just seem to combine
WinXP with SP2 on a bootable CD. Which is fine, but I sort of
"remember" a reference to a slipstream process that combined WinXP,
SP2 and all of the various updates that have been made to the existing
WinXP system.

Is my memory faulty?

Thanks for any help, jimbo

Most updates past SP2 can be integrated with the /integrate switch or with
several different applications or scripts that are available out there.

I suggest looking here:

http://unattended.msfn.org/

for a comprehensive look at an unattended CD/DVD.

Take a look at nLite ( http://www.nliteos.com/index.html ) and the
linked page http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/updatepack.html

I was just thinking how wonderful life was, when jimbo
Is my memory faulty?

No. But don't waste your time with any guides, there is a program that
slipstreams SP2 automatically.

Search for 'Autostreamer', latest version is 1.0.33, last I checked.

Thanks for the replies. I have slipstreamed WinXP and Service Pack 2
to a CD. And I have tried it out on MS VPC. Everything worked
perfectly. BUT, to add all of those Hotfixes, etc. seems more work
than it is worth. Even the SP2 hardly seems worth the effort. I have a
broadband Internet connection, so 200-400 MB of download is not a big
effort.

Maybe more advanced options such as including programs, etc. would be
worth the effort.

Any additional thoughts would be welcome.

Thanks, jimbo

It's worth doing SP2, for two reasons:
- safe handling of > 137G HDs
- firewall defaults to ON

SP1 is supposed to be safe > 137G but isn't, because some contexts
(such as on-error memory dumps and possibly hibernate) use old logic
that isn't OK > 137G, and can "wrap around".

You do NOT want that to happen, trust me!

OK, I will keep the WinXP and SP2 slipstream CD!

Thanks, jimbo
