How to shrink photos for email

Guest

A few weeks ago there was a thread on the window not popping up asking if you
would like to resize your photos or send original size. I have ran the
command to re-install the feature: regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll
(yes, the space after the 2 and the space
after the i is required)
Press...Enter...
You should see a dialog box that says:
DllRegisterServer and DllInstall in shimgvw.dll succeeded

All this happens but it has not corrected my problem. Assistance please

Check "Image Resizer" one of the XP power toys at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

The correct command is:
REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL
Try this, forget the /i and let us know.

Yves:
I dropped the i and tried it. I get the same result. The "Send pictures Via
email" window allowing me to shrink them does not come up.
????
Thanks

Vern:
I have tried this command with and without the /i switch
No luck.
Any other suggestions of what could be re-installed off the CD or elsewhere
to regain this XP feature as it is more convienent than 3rd party software
Thanks

Did you download and install ImageResizer.exe from Microsoft?

When you run the following command:
regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

Do you see the dialog that says:
"DllRegisterServer in SHIMGVW.DLL succeeded"

No, I had not. I thought this might be 3rd party software that was not
integrated with XP and wanted to exhaust other possibilities first.
Is this in fact the tool that is running in the background, or is it one
that is equally as good?
Thanks

Does a new e-mail message appear
with the un-resized image attached?

If not...and...if you are using Outlook
Express...try the following:

I cannot guarantee it, but the following
method may work:

How do I make OE my default mail client?

Go to...Start / Run...and enter the following:

msimn /reg

Click...OK...

Then open Internet Explorer and go to...
Tools / Internet Options / Programs tab...
and set OE as the default mail (and news)
program.

Good luck.

No, it is not the utility that resizes and
attaches images to an e-mail message.
It is a WindowsXP PowerToy and is a
very handy tool for resizing images...

OK, go to the following link and download
and install: ImageResizer.exe

http://tinyurl.com/36n

Then you can open any folder that contains
images and you will have an option to resize.
Just right click the selected image files and
choose Resize Pictures from the menu. You
can select one image or a whole group.

The program will place the resized copies in
the folder with your originals.
(Tip: *Never* overwrite your originals)

To insure that images in both portrait and
landscape orientation are resized to the
same dimensions...go to...Advanced...
and enter the largest number in both fields.
IOW...for 600x800...enter 800 in both fields.

It seems that there is a bigger problem. When changing the view of a picture
folder to filmstrip, nothing happens. In thumbnail view, the images are not
displayed. This is not in all folders although. When double clicking them no
picture will open. The default viewer was Microsoft photo editor. When
opening the photo editor, and browsing to the file they will open. The
windows picture and fax viewer will not open at all, even when changing the
file association for jpg or jpeg files or choosing open with....
Sounds like I need to run chkdsk /r/p from the CD..LOL
Thanks

Yes, you may have some complex issues.
