Is there a way (devious or not) to convince XP Pro SP 2
to share my C:\Program Files directory with the other PC
on my home LAN?? I can set individual Program File directories
as shared, but can't set C:\Program Files sharable so navigation
is tough. Must be a hack somewhere. I hate it when XP tries
to protect me from myself!

Your entire c drive should be accessible as a hidden administrative
share (c$). If both pcs are in the same workgroup, and you have the
same user account names on both, go to start - run \\{computer name}\c$
, or \\{ip address}\c$ and you should open an explorer window to the c:
drive of said computer.

You don't need a hack. You need to disable Simple Sharing from Folder
Options>View.

Why on earth would you want to? You can't run programs over the LAN, there's
no point in being able to access it as you can't install or uninstall
programs over the lan (well not that way anyway) so why on earth do you
want to share it?

If nothing else, because there are simple .ini files (WS-FTP.INI) that
I want to copy to another PC and see no reason to use pen and ink.

As I said, I do not want XP saving me from myself.

Then just log onto the machine with the *.ini files on it, and copy them to
the other(s). No need to share the folder at all.
