How to share files?

Brett

I have a new Vista machine on my network. There is only a workgroup named
WORKGROUP. The network has three devices:
- XP machine
- Vista machine
- NAS

The Vista machine cannot see the NAS. Also, I cannot share the Vista
machine's C drive. Share is greyed out when I right click the C drive and
select Share. These are configured for the Vista machine:
- Network Discovery: On
- File Sharing: On
- Public Folder Sharing: On
- Password protected sharing: On

The Vista machine can see the XP machine and access its resources.
Everything goes through a router. Any suggestions why this machine can't
see the NAS and share its C drive?
Thanks,
Brett

No idea about the NAS but security in Vista doesn't allow you to share the
whole drive. You can however use the administrative share C$, but that
requires a registry hack first.

Ah, thanks Alice. I can see the Vista share from other machines now.
Problem is the Vista machine can't see any other machine. I thought it was
just the NAS but it's all other devices. It can surf the web via the router
though. The Vista machine can't ping any of the other devices or itself
either. Other machines can ping the Vista machine and access its resources.

There's something basic I'm not doing right on the Vista machine. Any
suggestions?

I actually have it working now. I typed in \\computername in Windows
Explorer and the Vista machine found it. However, that same machine doesn't
automatically appear in the network section.

Actually, use the advanced sharing button, instead of the share button. You should be able to share the whole drive.
