How to share contacts and subfolders

We use Outlook 2003, on SBS2000, and are dissapointed that we cannot use
Business contacts manager functions with exchange. However we have a small
sales team who have their own territories as contacts, with each user
separating their contacts into subfolders by State, for convenience. When
one salesman is out, another may need access to his contacts. I have changed
permissions, which allows auser to open anothers access subfolders. I have
tried making distribution lists of the state by state contacts, and those
lists are saved in the Contacts folder. These can be accessed, and their
individual contacts can alos be accessed this way, but it is clunky. It
would be best if each user could see the others contacts folders and sub
folders and be able to open/edit and make comments to them.

I am reluctant to put all contacts into Public folders, as we cannot seem to
search for emails and otrher linked docs in public folders, which I assume
is related to excahnege and mailbox functions... or am I missing something.
Is there any way that we can always fully share and see all the contacts?

You can see them all, use them all, in public folders, but you're right that
activities/journaling won't work for you that way. Might want to check out
www.teamscope.com if this is a real need.

And re subfolders - better to avoid them, if you ask me - keep everything in
a single folder and use categories and views to filter/sort them.
