How do I Share Contacts Subfolders and not the Root Contacts Folde

Hello,

I'm trying to share a subfolder of contacts from within a user's main
Contacts folder on Exchange. I have applied the appropriate permissions on
the subfolders, but when I try to open the shared contacts subfolders, it
says it cannot open it. I have applied the permissions and followed the
instructions in this post:

http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...aef8d5461506&lang=en&cr=US&sloc=en-us&m=1&p=1

However, I am only able to see the "root" or main Contacts folder and not
any of the subfolders.

Is there a way to share only the Contacts subfolders and not the main
Contacts folder?

Thanks!

To provide access to a shared folder that isn't one of the folders listed on the File | Open | Other User's Folder dialog, the mailbox owner needs to grant "folder visible" permission to the root of the mailbox and any other parent folders of the shared folder, as well as appropriate permission -- at least Reviewer -- on the shared folder itself. The "folder visible" permission does not grant permission to see the items in that folder.

The user who needs access then goes into Tools | E-mail Accounts or Tools | Services (depending on the Outlook version), brings up the properties for the Exchange Server service, and on the Advanced tab, adds the mailbox.

For more information on folder permissions, with how-to screen shots, see http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/permissions.htm and http://office.microsoft.com/assistance/preview.aspx?AssetID=HA011134811033

Sue,

Thanks for your reply. I performed all of the steps that you mention,
however, when I try to open the shared Contacts subfolder, there are no items
visible at all. I even tried granting Editor and Owner permissions, but
there were still no contacts visible when I attempt to open the shared
Contacts subfolder.

Any additional information would be helpful.

Thanks!

Your results suggests that the permissions aren't quite right. The shared folder needs at least Reviewer permission.

Sue,

I granted the user Reviewer, Editor, and even Owner rights on the shared
folder but still nothing comes up. The main, root Contacts folder only has
"Folder Visible" permissions for the user. Is something more required?

Thanks!

That should be sufficient. Sometime it's necessary to wait a couple of hours for permissions to "take".

Did you look for a filter on the folder view? Items marked private?

Thanks Sue, I'll try all the settings again and give it some time to stick.
I'll also double-check the filters on the folder view.

I appreciate your help!
