I have 4 pc's connected to internet through same ADSL Router (which has adsl
modem built-in and 4 ports). I want to share some folders only between pc A
and pc B. e.g. I share a folder on pc B, I want only pc A has access to it,
pc C and D does NOT have access this folder. however, when I set the folder
on pc B to "share this folder on the network", all the pcs that connect to
this router have access to this folder (A, C and D), plz help me to only give
access to pc A.

I'm sorry, but Windows XP doesn't have an easy way to what you want.

You can assign static IP addresses to the computers and configure a
firewall program on pc B to only allow access from the IP address that
you assign to pc A.

If pc B runs Windows XP Professional, you can disable simple file
sharing on pc B and define access control lists that specify which
people (user names) are allowed access. Ron Lowe and I have written a
web page with details:

Windows XP Professional File Sharing

If pc B runs Windows XP Home Edition or Professional, you can:

1. Create a hidden share and only tell selected people about it. I've
written a web page with details:

Windows XP Simple File Sharing
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/filesharing.htm

2. Assign a password to the "Guest" account on pc B. When other
people try to access anything on pc B, they'll be prompted to enter
the password:

a. Click Start | Run.
b. Type "control userpasswords2" in the box and click OK.
c. Under "Users for this computer", click Guest.
d. Click Reset Password, enter a password, and click OK.

thx steve, very helpful information, I am happy with the way of putting a $
at end of the folder to hide it.
