I have XP pro on my sata C drive. i have a sata drive to install. I want tp
put Vista on the secound HD. I would like to keep them seperate and select
which drive to boot from. Please advise. I have read many ideas but am not
sure of the prcedure that would be best. I do not want to lose my XP install!
thanks

Simply insert the Windows Vista DVD in Windows XP Professional, during
setup, you will given two choices, 'Upgrade' or 'Custom', select the Custom
option and select the second drive on which you would like to install
Windows Vista.

thanks Andre, Will this allow me to remove Vista with out messing up my xp
install? Will I be able to restore?

If you want the installations to be truly separate, temporarily
disconnect the XP drive. Install Vista on the new drive. Reconnect the
XP drive, and use the motherboard bios to select which drive to boot
from.

If you want to remove Windows Vista from the second drive on which you plan
to install, just boot into Windows XP, open My Computer > right click drive
on which Vista is installed and click Format, if you want to remove the
Windows Vista Boot Manager, use EasyBCD by Neosmart Technologies:

If I unplug my c drive wont the vista boot loader be on the drive I install
vista on? thanks!

see the documentation from your Mainboard , if your PC's BIOS supports a
bootmenu before any OS is loaded.

For example - I have A board made by ASUS and I can press F11 key to select
which harddisk or DVD-Drive I want to boot from, so if I had two differend
HDD installed I could switch between, let's say XP and Vista or Vista and
Linux without any Bootloader.

Sometimes it's the F8 key, sometimes F10-F12 or any other combo. It matters
which manufacturer and which BIOS.

You can do that, but Vista will install a boot menu too.

Simply install it to the empty drive, and upon reboot, you should see

Microsoft Vista
Earlier version of windows.

I have a lenovo and yes it has option from thinkvantage recovery screen to
boot from another device - MY HDD is a usb HDD - Is it still possible to
remove my internal HDD and load vista onto the HDD drive - I was told no -
you cannot use a External USB HDD to boot from - but I have heard of these
virtual processors that you can install in order to make this happen -
Another option is that I do have a second spare HDD 160 GB but it is not good
to swap drives in your laptop even thought it is very easy - do they have
hardware available to plug into the hdd on your laptop that enables you to
add an additional HDD? Probably not and if not someone need to develop it -
what would you do
1 create a dual boot - pick custom and (does it set it up for you?) without
having to partition
2 should I attempt to put in onto my external USB HDD
3 Should I download the virtual processor (not sure it this is a cyber space
program or if it can be put on a Hdd of your own)
What would you do?
