How to set up email from my web site address?

Guest

I am trying to set up my email address off of my new website. For ex.
(e-mail address removed). The web host provides NO support, so can anyone here help
me, please?
The host has given me the POP3 and SMTP addresses, but then they have given
me the choice of NeoMail or SquirrelMail to use. Why do I need them and why
can't I use Outlook 2003? I tried to use the NeoMail, but with no luck. Is
it in conflict with Outlook?
Thanks for any help you can give. I'm stumped.

Neomail and Squirrel are web based interfaces.

You need to set up outlook using the pop and SMTP addresses - tools,
accounts, create a pop account and follow the screens.

1) If they refuse to provide you with the support you need, I'd find a new
host--and tell them WHY you're leaving.

2) If it's pop mail, then you should be able to use Outlook. Off hand, it
sounds to me like it's NOT POP mail. Who's the host? I'll take a look
through any support/sales material they have out there and see what I can
find.

Sapphiresoft is the host. They have no FAQ and their email support often
provides answers that don't match the questions I ask. Very frustrating.

Why did they put the webbased interface (Neo and Squirrel)as spart of the
setup process? Can I go directly to Outlook? Thanks.

Assuming you mean "Sapphiresoft.net", their free service doesn't seem to
provide pop mail access and is ad-supported (which would be another reason
they'd want to force you to use web mail. If you're talking about the $12
per year plan, it DOES say that it gets 50 pop mail accounts.

If you have any plan other than the free one, I'd say that you have reason
to expect pop mail access. If they've given you an address and it won't
work even though you've entered the information into outlook correctly, I'd
tell them that it doesn't work and if they want to continue receiving
payment from me, they'd better get it working because I don't pay for
service that doesn't work.

Without an account, I can't get in to check out their support information
(or lack thereof).

If you DO have the free plan, I can understand why they'd refuse to support
your efforts to use Outlook with their service--but they should at least
explain that to you.

Either way, if they're refusing to tell you anything about this, I don't
think they're worth the trouble.

I've been using a web host that I'm pretty satisfied with--they're very
responsive to my questions and someone is there 24/7. www.ace-host.net

Good luck.

Don. Yes it's SapphireSoft and yes, I have the $12 service. What I'm
confused about is VERY basic, I think. Can I set up using my email address
(like:[email protected]) simply by adding an account through Outlook and
using the POP3 and SMTP addresses that Sapphire gave me OR do I have to
somehow go through SapphireSoft's Control panel to set it up? SaphhireSoft's
Control Panel is where I was confronted with the choice of NeoMail or
SquirrelMail - with no explanation of what those services do. (I still don't
know what they do, by the way, or whether I need to use them.) Thus, my
simple question: Can I set up using my email address
(like:[email protected]) simply by adding an account through Outlook and
using the POP3 and SMTP addresses that Sapphire gave me OR do I have to
somehow go through SapphireSoft's Control panel to set it up?

And, if I want other addresses like (e-mail address removed), do I just set up
other Outlook accounts? Thanks for your help.

Yes... create an account in Outlook using the server names.

Sure. That should work fine, as long as you authenticate using the username
and password they gave you as well, possible on both the incoming and the
outgoing servers.
And, if I want other addresses like (e-mail address removed), do I just
set up other Outlook accounts?

Sure.

That gives me a little more info. When you login to the control panel,
what's the first thing you see? Does it look something like this picture
(attached)--is it CPANEL?

If it's CPANEL, then click on MAIL. Then click on "Manage/Add/Remove
Accounts". Then you can create a new account there. If I clcik on WEBMAIL
within CPANEL, I'm presented with HORDE and SQUIRRELMAIL.

I think maybe that's where you're going wrong.

If it's NOT CPANEL, then I dont' know how to tell you to create your
accounts. But YES do need to create your accounts before you can use them
in Outlook.

OK I had a few spare minutes and went and double checked, your provider is
using CPANEL. That means that you should see TWO mail icons. One says
"Webmail" and the other says "Mail". Click on "Mail". And go from there.

they offer two types of access - using a web-based interface and pop3. you
can read your mail in outlook or from any computer using the web. You need
to find out what your pop3 and smtp server names are and configure it in
outlook. We can't help you with the server names - you'll need to read the
help files or contact sappiresoft support to find out the server names -
they could be mail.your_domain.com and smtp.your_domain.com, but that just a
best guess.
