I know I can set up a wireless network between my laptop XP and desktop
2000pro computers, using my router as the go-between. right?
but i can not find a MS page that tells me how to set up each computer and
test that they can talk to each other (without using the internet of course).

please tell me or direct me to the site that explains the steps of
configuring each computer! thanks. email (e-mail address removed)

Do not post your real, unmunged email address on Usenet or
messageboards; it will get harvested by spambots.

Are these computers in a Workgroup or members of a domain?

If a Workgroup, create identical user accounts and passwords on all
computers. If the XP box is running XP Pro, disable Simple Sharing in
Folder Options>View.

Configure any firewalls to allow lan traffic as trusted. I usually do
this with my firewalls with an IP range. Ex. would be
192.168.1.0-192.168.1.254. Obviously you would substitute your correct
subnet. If the XP box is only using the SP2 Windows Firewall, go to its
Control Panel applet, click on the Exceptions tab and enable File &
Printer Sharing.

Then create shares as desired. XP Home does not permit sharing of users'
home directories (My Documents) or Program Files, but you can share
folders inside those directories. A better choice is to simply use the
Shared Documents folder.
