how to set a reminder for a task?

I use windoes XP and outlook. I want to set a reminder for myself on a
particular date a week in the future. How do I accomplish that in outlook?

If you mean you have Windows Outlook Express, you don't have Calendar or
Reminders. Only Office's Outlook has that capability.
