I just hit the regular search and then hit the browse near the bottom when
selecting the search location and then I drill down either to the PC that
I'm sure it's on, the work group, or even Microsoft Windows Network (in the
Entire Network section though you could search that too.) It's been a few
days since I've booted a 2k install but IIRC that's an option. Of course I
could be so used to XP these days that it would only seem that it would be a
likely option but I'm pretty sure you can do it like that. Give that a shot?

Yes, you can drill down either to a PC, a workgroup, or even Microsoft
Windows Network, but you cannot click OK button and the search will not
begin.

Have you modified any settings? As this has been posted to both XP and 2k
I'm not sure what OS you are using. It works like a champ here, I use it
quite frequently because my filing system is rather sad. I basically put
stuff in all these folders and then move these folders into another folder
eventually making it so that nothing is easily found any longer. I'd upload
a screenshot of it working but my hosts are claiming a hardware failure
today so, well, I'm not sure? It works here without any issues. Have you
disabled any services that would normally be on?

The OK button is active for network folders in "My network neighborhood" and
mapped network folders, but not for "All network" in "My network
neighborhood", not for "Microsoft Windows network" in "All network", not for
domains and workgroups in "Microsoft Windows network".
I'm using Windows 2000 Pro.
I uninstalled from my Windows 2000 pro a service for access to files and
printers on my computer to disappear from domain for others, and disabled
registration of my connections in DNS for both by NICs.

I have found and installed LAN Search Pro, which allows to search all LAN.

It's good that you have found a solution that works for you. I still find it
a little strange that you can't search over the network natively. One of
these days I'll get curious and boot a 2k system and have a look.

But I still want to search by Windows 2000 find window.
<snipped because we're getting too long>

Did you disable the indexing service? Is the indexing service enabled on the
computers that you're trying to search? I'm not sure why it's not
available - I simply don't know and it should be enabled. Turning off the
indexing service shouldn't disable that - what it would do is make it work
slower.

Take a peek here. It may be that you need AD in order for 2k to do this?
