How to save messages?

How do I save messages in Outlook from one computer to a different computer?
I tried saving the messages but can't open them after. Tried archiving them
but when I try to use Outlook to retrieve I get an error that this pst is
not compatible. I put the messages on a usb drive then my hard drive -
nothing seems to work. I can go back to the original computer with no
problem in retrieving them.

Not compatible, might mean your origonal pst was from OL2003 or later and
you are trying to open the pst in an earlier version

You need to post the versions of OL being used and your method of moving the
pst
(There are questions allmost daily on how to move, with appropriate
explanations)
