I have data kept on floppy from a program i had loaded on windows '98. I now
have a new laptop with Windows XP installed When i insert the floppy,
notepad comes up with the following message: This disc was compressed using
drivespace 3, which requires Windows '98. To use this disc you must first
mount it Blah Blah soon and so on. How can i use this data (my finances) on
XP

You will have to decompress the files on a computer that has drive space 3
installed (HINT - it can't be Windows XP). Then, copy them in an
uncompressed format to a CD/floppy. Then you can open them in Windows XP.

Hi Alli,

You need to decompress the files on a Win98 system, WinXP cannot do anything
with files compressed using drivespace3.

Unfortunately, you can't.
Windows XP cannot read DriveSpace compressed disks. If you want to access
the data on those disks, you'll need to decompress them on a Windows 98
computer.

By putting it in a Win98 machine with drivespace, and copying the files
onto some other medium, that does not involve drivespace, to bring it
across (eg to regular hard drive, then zip up with WinZip).

Drivespace involved low level 'real mode' 16 bit drivers that cannot be
used with XP, and no one is going to write any 32 bit ones now.
