how to retrieve accidently deleted distribution list Outlook 2003

Accidentally deleted an entire distribution list instead of deleting just one
contact from the list. I hit the red X. There was no warning, it just
disappeared. It is not in the deleted folder or anywhere else I can see....It
is in cache, so I am able to print out a list. But is there a way to avoid
redoing the list? Also to have it give me a "are you sure" message instead of
just deleting the list.
Thanks

Common problem. What do you mean "it is in cache" so you can print it out?
If you've deleted it from Deleted Items, it is gone.

But DL's don't reside in an "address book" (Outlook has no address book).
They reside in Contact Folders.

When I look for the list in my address book it is not there. But when I
create a new email and write in the name of the (accidentally deleted)
group,
it appears in the address line. I can then click on the name of the group
and
retrieve the names to print out, but can't put the whole list back as a
current distribution list.

When I have Outlook 2003 open, and I put my pointer on the book icon at the
top bar, it says address book. When I click on that address book, a list of
contacts opens up. Normally my group distribution lists are mixed in with
that list of contacts. The group list I deleted accidentally is no longer in
that list of contacts....

Right. But if you can still use it, it must reside in at least one of your
Contact Folders.

Unless it was cached by the autocomplete engine.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. I'll have to examine an NK2 to see if
it stores every address in a DL or just a link to the DL itself. I know DL's
create unique entries in the NK2 file.

I'm pretty sure the full list is cached. I got bit once having autocomplete generate a DL entry that had a stale address in it.

I suspect you're right. I need to find my copy of Ingressor so I can do an
autopsy on my old NK2 file.
