how to retreive lost desktop icons???

I went into properties in my e-mail desktop i-con to try
and protect it, but I lost it after I clicked on hide and
unclicked read only and archive. Have I lost this icon
for good ? How do I retreive it back?
I await your answer.

Open folder options from control panel. On the view tab, check 'show hidden
files and folders'.
