how to Restore old administrator

M

Michael Mampieri

I shut down my computer last night (2/21/04) and eveything
was normal...I started it up this morning and it was
completly different. My screen settings are TOTALLY
different my icons were totally different, my web browser
and information were lost and MOST importantly, My
Documents folder is completly different (lost a lot of
documents)I scanned the computer 2 times (Mcafee & Ez
Armour) Mcafee identified a trojan file
named "JS/Seeker.gen.f" and fixed the file. After this, I
restarted the computer and the same settings.
I have also run spybot & adaware.
While purchasing a file recovery program to try and save
files, I noticed that under my hard drive, Documents and
settings folder, there is a new administrator account that
was recently created. Next to it I have administrator.bak
which has all my old settings and files. Is there a way to
make this the new administrator and delete the bad
administrator folder?

Yes, you can copy user profiles. I would also back up your files to a cdrom, etc in
case something like this happens again. See the links below. The second link tells
you how to protect your computer from attacks such as the one you got. Personally I
would back up files and settings and format your drive and reinstall everything and
not connect to the internet without a firewall and antivirus software that also scans
all emails. Good luck. --- Steve
