How to restore AD from old backup copy?

Domain AD. Two DC. One of them go down: HDD damaged.
Well, I install fresh w2k server, and try to Restore from backup that made
03.09.2004.
Result:

Event ID: 8012
Source: NTBackup
Message: DS Contents in the backu are out of date. Try to restore from more
recent backup....

When I change system data - restoring proceeded successfully, but after
reboot, system not boot back. cyclic reboot begins.

So, what shall i do to solve this problem?

Hi,

If both the DC's are in same site, then allow the initial replication while
promoting as DC. If both are in different sites then backup the system
state in media. While promoting a DC, use DCPROMO / ADV. After
installation, restart the server.
