How to restore a Program Event sound?

Hi all

I've lost the sound associated with the audio control in slider accessed
from the System Tray. The way it used to work was I could left click the
icon, and after the volume control appeared, clicking on the slider would
produce a sound I had selected, and at a volume level proportional to the
slider position. This was a handy way to check speaker volume.

Now, the only sound I get is a beep from the PC case speaker, always at the
same volume.

I suspect this is somehow related to a Microsoft update, but if it is, I
sure can't figure out which one. A search of the KB has come up with zilch.
Anyone familiar with this problem?

Doug,

This helped me. I had the same problem since Dec 2003 and found this
solution:

Easy fix!)

Fix the Ding.wav File (Line 6)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click
it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in
Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Best of luck....

That did it!! Many thanks.

A question - any idea what caused the problem? Or was it just "one of those
things"?
