How to resize the symbol dialog box

When I began using the symbol dialog box (Insert-Symbol) it was just like a
pop-up that I could move around the screen as needed. Suddenly it resized
itself (or I pressed a very odd combination of keys) so that it is full
screen with no minimize or close buttons -- only the insert and cancel
buttons after choosing a symbol.

How do I resize it back to being smaller than full screen?
