How to Reset XP Pro's Administrator password?

I have a laptop with XP Pro loaded on it. Now it has a
bootup problem, and I need to try repairing. When
prompted for the Admin password, the password does NOT
work.

How to reset it, so I can repair install? Thanks for any
help!
 
You don't need a password to do a repair install. The area your trying to
get into is the recovery console which requires a password. You don't want
the recovery console if your trying to do a repair install.
Boot from the XP cd, and when prompted hit enter to begin setup. Press F8 to
accept the license agreement. It will then search and find your existing XP
install. Select it, and choose R for repair.
