How To Resend A News Group Message?

S

saberman

I am trying to use Outlook 2007 as a News Group reader. I cannot find the
option to resend/repost a message.

There are times, for whatever reason, that a message posted to a news group
does not show up and you want to resend it. When I click on the Sent Items
folder I see the message but when I open the message there does not appear
to be an option to resend it.

Is there an option to resend a message and it so where is it?

Outlook is not a newsreader - you are really using windows mail
X-Newsreader: Microsoft Windows Mail 6.0.6001.18000

AFAIK, it doesn't support resend and its probably not needed - if the
missing posts are to this server, resending the post will only irritate
people as the original post was posted, but the servers are often out of
sync, so it may take some time for you to see your own post. Google for the
subject or search for it using the community interface - the web address is
in my signature.

Your are correct -- I am using Windows Mail. I assumed it was part of Outlook 2007 since there is a
button for News in Outlook that launches Windows Mail.

I was using Outlook 2007 / Windows Mail on a Vista SP1 installation. It appears to be erratic at
best. For example, I can see the original message I posted on this type in Windows Mail but none of
the replies. I am connecting to msnews.microsoft.com and don't think it has over a week's latency.

It also appears to fail to post even though it says it did. The posting does not appear either in
Windows Mail (which doesn't mean it's not there) or in Agent (which means it really isn't there).
That was the situation I was referring to in asking out to resend.

I guess if I am going to use the Vista SP1 machine for more that development and testing I will have
to install Agent for News.

BTW, is there any way to get Windows Mail to rescan all messages on the news server? In Agent there
is a "Server Creates messages out of order" checkbox that tells Agent to check all messages on the
server not just ones higher than the last one it received. I have Synchronize set to All Messages
in Windows Mail but it doesn't seem to help.

You can reset the groups in Mail and redownload them all. I think its in the
maintenance section. I don't know if it helps though.

Also - don't use the 'community features' of Mail - that seems to help.

I hate to appear as dumb as I am (after being in this business since the begriming of time) but how
do you turn off the "community features" of Mail. (I just love 'features' that appear because the
QA team missed them.)

You will note that I am using a News Reader that (1) I understand and (2) that I trust.
Unfortunately, it has been abandoned by the company that developed it. So I am forever locked into
this release.
