How to replace server

Eduardo Sicouret

Hello:

Please help me with this...

I want to replace a win2000 domain controller server (the only one in my
network) with another computer... keeping the same name, the same ip
address, the configured users and files.

Also this unique server offers DHCP and DNS services.

Could you please give me some advice on how to do this? Is there a KB
document?

TIA

Well, if keeping the same computer name is not critical, the easy way to do
this is to bring the new server online, join the domain, dcpromo the new
machine to a DC and transfer the FSMO roles. Transfering DHCP and DNS are
easy, and AD accounts are automatically replicated. Don't know what you
mean by 'files'. If you are talking about applications, they would have to
be reinstalled.

If you absolutely have to clone your existing server, keeping the same name
and IP address, try this:
