How to remove programs from the StartUp group in XP?

During the installation of some hardware devices and applications software,
the suppliers cleverly tempt users to put their product in the startup group
of Windows. But this hogs a lot of RAM and sometimes one starts getting
error messages while processing graphics saying there is not adequate memory
(which obviously refers to RAM).

I have checked with the Printer HW Folder and Program as well as the
CD/VCD/DVD burning software like Nero if there is an option to remove the
device/program concerned from the StartUp group but I have not found such an
Option, so far.

Is there any safe way of removing the HW or SW which is not required all the
time from the StartUp group and leave it safely in the respective
application folder so that it can be called to service when required?
