How to remove program from Registry?

O

OLIM

I cannot properly remove a program, it removes from the
windows add/remove list, but still shows in the program
files, is there a way of removing a stubborn program from
the Registry? If so, how do I find the relevant program?
Do I just do a search for this program? I do know I have
to save the registry before deleting anything on it. The
programs in question are 'Yahoo Messenger' and 'Yahoo
Mail', downloaded and installed from one program. Yahoo
Mail seems to have installed itself into the Windows
System files! Could this cause a problem finding it in
the Registry? I want to do a clean install, in the hope
it will work this time. It had been working well,
before the Proxy settings on the LAN got deleted, were re-
installed and got onto the internet ok on the user
account, but then Yahoo Messenger not working!
Hope someone can help me on this. I'm sure I've read
somewhere that one can delete from the registry?
Await your response.

You just search the registry for the name of the offending program and
delete the relevant key(s).

Removing a program in Add/remove only removes files that it put there on
installation; this quite often leaves one or two in its own folder in
Program Files, and you can delete that folder.

In registry I would go no further than looking for the name of the
software company in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software
and removing those keys relating to the program.

Best of all is to use System Restore to restore to a date before you
installed the program - but that would not be good if you have installed
other things in the mean time as you would lose all the registry info on
them
