How to remove an attachment in message body in Outlook 2007?

I am tidying up large attachments in Outlook to reduce the size of the PST
file. In some e-mails the attachment is in the message body. These particular
attachments CANNOT be CUT or DELETED, since these controls are greyed out.
The <Ctrl-X> or <Del> keys do not have any effect. Any suggestions?

What happens when you open the message in its own window (double-click
on it) and then right-click on the attachment? Isn't there an option
to Remove? There was in OL2002.

The attachment opens in its native application (Word or Acrobat) and does not
lend itslef to removal or deletion. For sure OL2002 things have not migrated
to OL2007!

It is irrelevant which application is associated with a filetype. You
aren't trying to open the attachment. You asked how to delete it from
the e-mail but keep the e-mail message. So opening the message in its
own window and right-clicking on the attachment doesn't show an option
to Remove that attachment?

No! For example, double-clicking on a Word attachment, one is asked to
OPEN,SAVE AS or CANCEL. If I OPEN, then its in an MS-Word environment and
responds only to those commands. Roght-click asks you to Minimize or Close;
that's all.

Thanks for trying, but I think this is not solving anything.

Double click to open message
Other Actions-> Edit message
select the attachment and press Delete
Save and close the message

So what is it that you REALLY want to do? Delete the attachment or
open it? Look at your Subject header. Read your original post. You
asked how to delete the attachment, not why you cannot open it.

So which problem do you want to address?

- Delete an attachment from an e-mail (which is what you asked about).

- Open an attachment.

Thanks Roady!
This IS the solution.

That is the menu navigation method. Is the option to open the e-mail
and right-click on an attachment to select Remove now gone from
OL2007?

It's there for Plain Text and HTML but not for Rich Text.

Thanks for the info. I'm still using OL2002 but like to know about
"abnormalities" in OL2007. Actually, RTF positions the attachment
within the body rather than list them in an Attachments field. That
is, Outlook will show the MIME part as an icon within the body of the
e-mail, so I suspect you right-click on the icon to select Remove.

I had been trying to remove attachments and the 'remove' option was greyed
out. You suggestion to open the the message in its own window solved the
problem. Thanks for the info (I think ANL-47 didn't know his arse from his
elbow).

This does NOT work for emails that are also meeting notices. Edit Message
is not an option in the "Other Actions" for such emails.

Anyone know how I can delete embedded attachments in meeting notice emails?
