How to remove a DC from the AD

J

Joe

I have a DC that was crashed due to hardware mulfunction.
We have decided not to replace the DC as it is no longer
needed. I discovered the crashed DC still exist in the AD
and on my other DC's event log, I can see errors saying
the AD replication with the dead DC failed.

How do I remove the dead DC from the AD? Thank you very
much.

Joe.

I forgor the link already but u can use <ntdsutil>

On the DC, open command prompt and type ntdsutil and press
enter. type metadata cleanup, press enter. type
connections press enter. type connect to server
<servername>. type quit to back to metadata cleanup and
type select operation target press enter. type list
domains and press enter. type select domain <number> press
enter. type list sites and press enter. type select site
<number> and press enter. type list servers on site and
press enter. type select server <servername which you want
to delete> and press enter. type quit to back to metadata
cleanup. type remove selected server and press enter. the
object should been deleted. Check the AD site and
services - make sure there is no object inside the server
which you deleted - then delete the server object.
