Device Manager, Click View, check/tic "Show Hidden Devices"
Expand Ports Category - Uninstall all COMx ports. Reboot, Enter
BIOS setup - Peripheral configuration, manually set Serial Port A
to use COM1's address and IRQ. If Serial B exists, set to disabled.
Save BIOS settings, Exit - on entry to XP it should re-enumerate
Serial Port A as COM1. This assumes you do not have a modem
in the PC which by default will try to use COM3, a multiplexed port
shared with COM1.

who can walk me thorugh reinstalling the driver for com port 1.
I uninstalled the com 1 on the device manager and now Com 4 shows up and I
don't know how to reinstall com1.
