Wanting to organise the list that appears when I click Start All Programs, I
moved one program out of it by mistake and it is now standing on my desktop.
Would someone know how I can reinsert it in? Thank you in advance for your
suggestions.

Just drag it back to where it should be. You will have to hover over Start,
then each menu selection until you get to the right one, then drop it.

But I can not do this because, as soon as my pointer leaves the window opened
by Start All programs to go get the folder to reinsert it in this list, the
Start All programs list disappears.

Yes, and when that list appears, continue to drag it to the folder that you
want it in.

What you describe below is a normal part of the Drag and Drop procedure.
Just make sure that you've clicked and are DRAGGING (meaning you click and
hold down the mouse button), dragging it along to where you want it, then let
go of the mouse button.

Example: Click and hold down mouse button, drag over the top of Start button.
Start Menu appears. Continue to drag to All Programs, the All
Programs
Menu appears. Continue to drag to Start Up, the Start Up menu
appears.
Continue to drag into the Start Up Folder and let go of the
mouse button.

This example is just that, an example. You can follow the same procedure to
drag and drop to ANY folder on your system.

I myself choose not to use the drag and drop, but I use another method. At
any rate, I hope this has helped.

Please try to move any folder from your desktop into the "Start All programs"
list and you'll se that what you describe does not work. When the "Start All
programs" list is open, you have to keep your pointer on it. If you don't
the list disappears. In order to place the folder that is on my desktop in
this list, I must drag it into the list, therefore, my pointer leaves the
"Start All programs" list and it disappears before I have time to drag the
folder in it.

In that case, R-click the the Start button and "Open All Users", now
drag and drop your "folder" into "Programs"

I've done it many times!! When click "Start" and then drag to "All Programs"
and it comes up, just move straight over to the right. When your mouse is on
"All Programs", you do have part of the menu that pops up straight over to
the right don't you? Or at least very close at a minimal right angle? Well
anyway, sorry I couldn't help you out. I tried!! Glad you got it working ok.

What I described is easier than you think :) unless of course you're on a
laptop, then it gets a little cumbersome hehe :)

If your system is operating properly, you should be able to move the pointer
from the start all programs icon onto the menu list, but you must move it
directly onto the menu list. If you move it to any other spot the menu list
will close.
