I am using WinXP Pro and have my task bar located horizontally at the bottom
of my screen. Somehow, the height of the Task Bar has increased to a double
row, although there are only a few icons visible on the Task Bar. This extra
space robs me of my available screen space, but I have just not been able to
reduce it to a standard single-row height. Can you help in suggesting how
this can be done?

What happens is that the end "margin" of the QuickLaunch toolbar has gotten
so far over to the right that it is now down below. Unlock the Taskbar and
then "grab" the dotted line on the bottom bar and drag it up to immediately
to the right of the QuickLaunch icons. Now you've successfully made the
QuickLaunch toolbar shorter and can "grab" the top bar of the Taskbar and
"push" it down to the regular one-tier height.
