I've some how managed to loose an entire folder and was wondering if there is
a way of getting it back. The folder was called GRAPHICS and was directly
under my "D" drive. Path would have been: D:/GRAPHICS . I've tried
"searching" for the folder with negative results. Have I lost this folder
for good or is there a way of getting it back? I've got Norton SystemsWorks
Pro 2003 on my computer and have tried using Unerase Wizard but it doesn't
find the folder "GRAPHICS". Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks, Mac

WinXP Home SP2, Hard drive is partitioned (NTSF) into two drives, C and D.

Most common thing I've seen is people unknowingly move it into an other
folder. (It's easy and very quick to notice sometimes.)

Try to search for it.

/Start/Search - All files and Folders - type in "GRAPHICS"
Under More advanced options.
make sure you select:
Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders and Search subfolders
Click search.
you may get more results but you can look at the results and see if one of
them is it.

Pease let me/us know if this works.

Windows xp has a system restore feature that takes snap shots of yer system
from time to time.. It allows you to go back in time to the date before you
did that. If you restore back you should be where you where before that file
dissapeared?
Good luck!

System Restore is for Windows system files. It will not allow you to get
back "data" files that you create/download etc. and store on your hard
drive. Sorry!

Stop using the computer until you try to restore the folder and files
using one of the below undelete tools. Delete files are not removed
from the drive, just the reference to them, but their space is marked as
availabe and can be overwritten, hence the warning to minimize use of
the system until you try to undelete the files.

Here are some options:

Executive Software “Undelete”:

No, this is *not* correct. System Restore lets you put the
operating system back the way it was. It does not backup user
files, and does nothing that will help him in this instance.

Thanks for all the great replies. I will try the "recovery" tools suggested.
As for "what actions were involved in the "some how".", I'm not sure. The
folder was there one day and gone the next. I had been copying some files to
a "thumb" drive and moving a few things around that day but I don't think I
would have "deleted" that folder (but anything is possible). The FOLDER had
a lot of sub-folders that had a LOT of files. I'm guessing, but it was
probably around 7 gigs worth. If I had tried to delete it, I would probably
have gotten the "warning" about it not fitting into the recycle bin and I
probably would have remembered that. But maybe not. I just don't
remember... Pretty pathetic. I'd prefer to think it was some weird virus
that did it but it was probably me that did something. I'm just not sure
what.

PS: I have already tried the "Search" option with negative results. Thanks
for the suggestion though.

Ok, good luck.

I'd suggest tightening down all the other folders before they get so
"loose" that you lose them as well. Otherwise you may "lose" them.

Thank you, Mr. Language Person. lol :) I was very tired and frustrated
when I wrote that post. Now that I have had some sleep and am thinking a
little more clearly, I see how poorly the post was written. I apologize for
the misspellings, bad grammar and poor sentence structure. I must point out
however, that the word “looseâ€, as used in the sentence in question, was
being used in the masculine, past, pluperfect tense. Therefore it became a
conjunctive-adverb and was used properly. There is no need for you to
apologize. There are many people that are unfamiliar with that rule. In
fact, there are many English teachers that have forgotten about the existence
of this rule and no longer teach it to their students. I however, was
fortunate enough to have Miss. Wormwood as an English teacher in the 7th
grade and she learned us real good.

I recommend that you use DataRecoveryWizard to recover your data.
The software provides very useful functions for data recovery:
DeleteRecovery, FormatRecovery, AdvancedRecovery, RawRecovery.

This program is an efficient disk recovery software providing
you a complete answer to data loss.

First thing I recommend you download the demo version of
DataRecoveryWizard. (http://www.easeus.com/download.htm)

Run the program and select the recovery mode "DeletedRecovery",
or "FormatRecovery", or "AdvancedRecovery".

Am I the only one who's sick of the "I recommend
that you use DataRecoveryWizard.." spam?

Enough already!
