How to read hidden (protected) folders?

I have a friend who has an DELL 8300 XP (PRO) machine inherited from
his father who is now deceased. He wants to recover what his father
was working on.

The machine was set up with several users, all of which have folders
under Documents and Settings, lapelled with user names. He finds that
there are files of value under all of them, but his father's folder is
unreadable and/or uncopyable.

Is the folder password protected? Is there any way he can get access
to that folder? Maybe not.

Hi,

He probably just needs to take ownership of them. Right-click the folder,
select properties. Go to the security tab and click advanced. You can take
control of the folders on the owner tab. For the security tab to appear in a
WinXP Pro system, you must disable simple file sharing in the control
panel/folder options/view tab. For a WinXP Home system, you must restart in
safe mode and logon as administrator. More details here:
