How to Read/Copy Off Old IDE HD onto New SATA Drives?

How do we do this? I tried hooking up my old IDE HD onto the primary
IDE
(as a Slave), and it appears to try to boot off of it, so it give an
error as a "non-boot" disk.

So it looks like the SATA drive does NOT have priority over the IDE
inputs.

I even tried placing the IDE drive as a Slave on the secondary IDE
input, in
parallel with the DVD-ROM drive. Still no luck.

How do you do this? Do i have to remove the DVD-ROM, and replace
it temporarily with the HD?

Thanks to all in advance.....

You need to go into the BIOS and set the SATA drive as the boot drive.

Shouldn't matter how the IDE drive is connected.
