How to prevent System32 screen displaying after startup?

At the end of each startup, the System32 screen is displayed. The Windows
Task Manager shows Task: System32 running, Process: explorer.exe.
How do I prevent this screen from displaying each time? I'm using XP Pro
v2002, svc pk 2. Please Help.

Hi,

If task manager is showing system32.exe running, then you have a virus that
needs to be removed.

If you simply have an explorer window opening to the C:\Windows\system32
folder, then you have a different issue. Please see:

System32 Folder Opens When Logging on to Windows
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=170086

Also, start/run msconfig, and see if there is a line that loads /L:ENG. It
comes from a SoundBlaster Audigy driver, and it can cause this problem as
well. If it exists, use the registry fix from MVP Kelly:

Line 260 on the right:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

It's far easier than mucking about in the registry. The problem can also be
caused by other incorrectly built registry strings. So, if the first two
steps don't help you, could you please export and post the contents of these
keys in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

To do this, start/run regedit, expand the branches to each key (do this one
at a time). Click on the key, then on file/export. Give it any name, then
save to the desktop. Once you have saved both keys, close the registry
editor. Right-click one of the saved files on the desktop, choose edit, it
should open in notepad. Click edit/select all/edit/copy. Open a response to
this post and click in the message text area. Hit ctrl+v to paste the
contents. Repeat for the other saved key, then send the post for
examination.

This can be caused by a blank entry, such as can be left behind by
an incomplete program removal, in the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and/or
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys. It can also
be caused by an entry in these same keys that starts with a " / ."

I created the 2 files on my desktop as you suggested. 1 file for hkey local
machine and 1 file for hkey current user. I'm encountering a problem after I
copy when I attempt to paste the file into the reply. The windows task
manager shows CPU 100% & a Not Responding. I must be doing something wrong.
I opened each section under the Current through the Run. Was I only suppose
to open the sections at the Run? Any suggestions.

On 12/29/05, via email, I sent to you the hkey current user15.2 MB. The
problem is that I was not able to send you the hkey local machine 43.3 MB.
The upload limit is 16 MB. Any suggestions?

hkey local machine - run:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"IgfxTray"="C:\\WINDOWS\\System32\\igfxtray.exe"
"HotKeysCmds"="C:\\WINDOWS\\System32\\hkcmd.exe"
"MSRegSvc"="C:\\WINDOWS\\System32\\regsvc32.exe"
"Symantec NetDriver Monitor"="C:\\PROGRA~1\\SYMNET~1\\SNDMon.exe /Consumer"
"MyWebSearch Email Plugin"=" "
"HostManager"="C:\\Program Files\\Common
Files\\AOL\\1100875380\\ee\\AOLSoftware.exe"
"AOLDialer"="C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\AOL\\ACS\\AOLDial.exe"
"ccApp"="\"C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Symantec Shared\\ccApp.exe\""
"QuickTime Task"="\"C:\\Program Files\\QuickTime\\qttask.exe\" -atboottime"

hkey current user - run:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
@=""
"AOLCC"="\"C:\\PROGRA~1\\AOLCOM~1\\ACCAgnt.exe\" /startup"
"MSMSGS"="\"C:\\Program Files\\Messenger\\msmsgs.exe\" /background"
"AOL Fast Start"="\"C:\\Program Files\\America Online 9.0b\\AOL.EXE\" -b"
"Aim6"=""
"PlaxoUpdate"="C:\\Program Files\\Plaxo\\2.5.10.17\\PlaxoHelper.exe -a"

Hope this all you wanted.

Please let me know exactly what/where the problem is & what I can do to fix
it.
Sometimes I see things like Name: Default, Type: reg_SZ, Data: (value not
set) or just blank.
Are both of these occurances acceptable?

Does the Data field always have to contain an entry as opposed to being blank?
For example, Aim6 does not have a value under Data.

The problem, as I repeated via email, is that you are attempting to save and
send the entire branch instead of just the keys indicated. Please reread the
instructions on how to expand and select the appropriate keys for exporting.
