How to permanently redirect an exchange smtp email account to third party address.

Y

yO ..

I have been successful with creating a server side outlook rule that will
redirect all inbound email and also delete it. This is fine but the email
ends up in the profiles sent folder and deleted items. Attempting to add
the "delete permanetly" rule does not work because the rule is client based,
and we dont want the outlook client to be running permanetly.

This account is not managed and I do not want to have to manually log in and
clean it out eventually.

In the UNIX world Its a simple creation of an alias...

Again how would I create an email redirect within Exchange without the
account being populated at all.
Im attempting this all in the windows2000 environment, Exchange 2000, and
Outlook 2000...

Thank you.

That is fine .. but I would have to create an additional account with the
forwarding smtp entry in it as its primary.

Im also familiar with this option.. this forward will work. and the forward
will take place. Yet the original account will still receive the original
email. Which I do not want.

Actually you can create a mail-enabled contact in AD with two e-mail addresses.

Ok .. everyone responding doesnt seem to have done this before. Ill try to
explain myself more clearly.

I have an account within active directory with 1 smtp entry (there actuall
email address)
This person is now at another sister organization and wants all email
forwarded to that address.
My exchange server is not hosting the domain of that sister organization.

I want to some how configure exchange/AD/Outlook Rules to have all email
coming in to be auto redirected to that third party email address .. lets
say for example to a hotmail account.

Yet I dont want any email to actually populate in the original exchange mail
box.

This is a 2000 environment. Servers.. Pro workstations .. Office 2000 also.

Using Outlook server side rules works fine yet the sent box and deleted
items continue to fill after the redirect rull is applied. The delete
permanetly option does not work for it is a client side rule only. And of
course we dont want an outlook client left on somewhere.

You cannot have forwarding set within Active Directory also because you can
only forward to accounts within the organization/domain.

Anyone ... please .. thanks alot.

OK, once again.
In ADUC create Contact (Action\New\Contact), specify Hotmail account in it's
properties, and then mail-enable it giving e-mail address of departured user.

My mistake Kirill.. I misunderstood what you said in your original email.
Im going to attempt creating that contact and having the original account
forward to it.

Thanks again..
