how to permanently delete tracked changes?

In Word 2003, the track changes feature is incredibly annoying and
persistent. I turn off the display of changes using the the "markup"
option from the view menu, then in the Tools -> Options -> Security
tab I unchecked the "Display hidden changes on startup" option, but
these changes still show up when anyone opens the document.

If anyone can help me get rid of the changes in the document, or save
it in such a way that they dont display on being opened, I'd be very
greatful. Along those lines, is there a way to have word *not* track
changes at all from the get-go?

Thanks!

If you really want to "get rid of" them, then use Accept All Changes in
Document and Delete All Comments in Document.
