How to paste as plain text into rich-text message?

If I'm editing a rich-text format message (always when replying, I
never use rtf if I can avoid it), and I need to paste text from a
browser, or something else where the text is fontified, I need to be
able to paste it in as "plain text", without the fontification it came
with. I generally have to go to a plain text editor (Emacs in my
case), paste it into a buffer, then select what I pasted, and then
when I paste it into the rtf message, it pastes as plain text.

Is there some shortcut I can use, so I don't have to go through the
intermediate text editor, either when putting the text into the
clipboard, or when I'm pasting it?

That option is available only if Word is your email editor.

I use a Copy and Paste utility, ClipMate, which allows you to change the
flavor of the text plus a lot more.
