How to open a read-only file sent on a CD?

I have a CD with a powerpoint presentation on it that was saved as a "READ
ONLY". It contains the proper extension .ppt and we are both running the
same version of Power Point, 2003. It was emailed to me and would not open,
and now sent on a CD and I still cannot open the file. Message is "cannot
read this file". Please help. It is about 5meg and 46 slides in length,
containing text and photo's.

All files on CD are read only. Try copying it to your hard drive.

In addition to what Austin has stated. Make sure that your version of
PowerPoint has all the update Service Patches installed.

A read-only file, as its name suggests, WILL let you open (read) the file.

It sounds like there's some other problem here.

Choose Help, Check For Updates and see if MS thinks your copy of PPT needs any.
I'm guessing it does and that applying the updates will let you open the file.
