I have a 140 pages document. I want to number only the Main Document, not the
first pages where is Title, Forewords and Index. I used a break section, so
the first pages is section 1 and second section is the main document.

When I try to number only the Main Document, no matter what I do, the
numbers appear also on the first pages.

How can I number only the Main Document, not first pages?

Thank you.

Select the footer in section 2. Then deselect 'Same as Previous' on the
Headers and Footers toolbar.

The part you're missing is turning off the Same As Previous in the
header and/or footer of the second section. See
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NumberingFrontMatter.htm for
specific instructions.
