how to merge two companies

Hi

Have anyone tried this:

We have two companies, both are using Windows 2000 AD. The 1 are using
Exchange 2000 the other are running Lotus Notes as mail.
We assume that we choose Exchange as mail.

The new company should have a new name, so is it possible to make a new root
domain with the new name, and
use the old domains as childs or trusted domains?

And what about Exchange, the two domains in this scenarie, does not have the
schema change in the their Active directory.

Or is the best sollution to make an new Domain/forest and migrate the users
to this?

No. There is no way to merge two roots. A forest can't have two roots and
a root can't become a child.

As long as Exchange is installed only in the one forest (the Exchange
organization), that's the only forest that will require schema modification.

A compromise to this would be to create another domain in the forest that
already has Exchange installed in it, then migrate the accounts from the
other forest into that.
