Moving/Migrating users from one forest to another

Hello,

We currently have two separate Win2k forests in our company that both run
Exchange 2000. We are planning on eliminating one of the domains which has
about 40 users. We are trying to decide between migrating those users to the
other forest/domain or just recreating their accounts on the new domain and
rejoining their machines.

From a general, high-level view, what makes more sense?

In general, what is involved and how difficult would it be to migrate them
from their existing Windows 2000/Exchange 2000 forest/domain to the other?

.
Terry!

With *only* 40 user accounts it might be just as easy to
manually do it. However, let me define *manually*. You
can use either an Excel Spread Sheet, a .csv file and
CSVDE or you can use ldifde. I personally like ldifde. I
used it to create some 100 user accounts when the company
for which I worked merged with another. I was just not
all that familiar with ADMT at that time( the first
version then; there is a second version out now! ).
NETDOM might be of help for the computer accounts.

You could possibly use ExMerge for the mailbox issues.
Or, better said, mailbox contents issues.

I think that you should also consider using ADMTv2. I
will be honest and tell you that I have never done any
INTERFOREST migrations ( your situation ) using ADMTv2. I
have done several INTRAFOREST migrations, however. ADMTv2
should be able to automate things for you. It would be a
lot nicer than having to go touch 40 computers.

If you need more assistance/input please let us know!

HTH,

Cary

It went smooth.
