How to make the mouse work as in Linux

I mostly use Linux at work, and there are two mouse features of the X Windows
system I would really like to get my XP machine at home to have as well.

First, I'd like the focus to follow the mouse, without clicking. To be
clear, if I have Word opened and maximized, and another, smaller window in
front, I would like to be able to type or scroll in Word simply by moving the
mouse pointer off of the front window and over the Word window, without
having the Word window come to the foreground in the process. Is there any
way to do this?

Second, can XP be set up to copy text by highlighting it and paste it by
pressing the middle mouse button (or the left and right buttons together)?

Thanks for any suggestions.

On Win98 tweakUI would let you set this up but I don't know about XP
On the other hand I personally HATE that mode. Been using window systems
for 25 years or so and could never see the point of that feature. On a
laptop it's useless because your thumbs keep hitting the touchpad and the
cursor moves out of the window.

Now THAT would be nice!

Why simulate, when you can have the real thing?

The downloadable Microsoft TweakUI Power Toy lets you set the focus to
follow the mouse as in Linux (X-Window actually).

TweakUI
[+] Mouse

X-Mouse
The “Activation follows mouse” checkbox enables X-Mouse style window
activation. When X-mouse style window activation is enabled, you need only
move the mouse into a window in order to give it focus. Normally you must
click on a window in order to give it focus.

I have a logitech mouse (win xp) and one of the middle button options is
"Paste". I have mine set to double click.

"Paste" is one of the choices for the wheel on a Microsoft wheel mouse too.
