how to make admin icon always show

Tony

Hi All,

I have noticed with XP that as soon as a user gets administrative
privileges, that the Administrator's icon does not show at the
user password prompt screen (except in safe mode).

Is there a way to make the Administrator's icon always show,
regardless of what other users has administrative privileges?

Many thanks,

1. Press the Start Button
2. Click on Run
3. Type "regedit" without the quotes*
4. Dig down to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList"
5. Right click on the right and create a new DWORD value named
Administrator**
6. Assign it a hexidecimal value of 1 (enabled)
7. Close regedit
8. Reboot to see effects

Notes:
* Just so you know editing the registry isn't the brightest thing to do
though many of us do it all the time. However, you have been warned. For a
better warning:

** Before you do this it would be wise of you to right click in the
left-hand pane on the appropriate branch and selecting the "export" option
to save it to a safe location so that you might restore it.

Run the edit on Kelly's site:

Line 5: Enable/Disable Administrator on Welcome Screen

See the top of the page for info on running the edit.

The use Administrator, is only available in safe mode, that is how it is set
up.

:

That's only for XP Home. For XP Pro it can be set up to show up on the
Welcome screen.

Of course they could just press CTRL + ALT + DEL twice and type in
Administrator. But that'd be just too easy. <g>
