How to link sound file to memory stick not drive

In Powerpoint I link a sound file. I want to carry the presentation and sound
files on a memory stick. When I play the presentation on a different machine
the link references a different drive etc. so it doesn't play.
It depends on how the usb ports are labelled but this can change between
machines.
How can I make the presentation truly portable?
Assume either Windows media player is on the new machine, or
it isn't.
